Why does the honouring garden only memorialize women military veterans?

We feel there is a noticeable void in the commemoration of women military veterans whose many contributions have often been overlooked. The Honouring Garden seeks to address this by shining a spotlight on women veterans through perennials, music, and permanent engraved plaques, creating a space where their courage, resilience, and legacy can be honoured, celebrated, and remembered for generations to come.

How are women military veterans selected for the honouring garden?

Currently, women military veterans are selected through networking with veteran focused organizations, as well as directly with military veterans and their immediate families.

how can I support the honouring garden?

Donations of any size ensure that The Honouring Garden can be both developed and maintained for future generations. Additionally, volunteers are always needed for garden maintenance and development. how is the music created?

Students registered with Music for Veterans Project are offered several different commemorative opportunities, including the opportunity to contribute a composition to The Honouring Garden. Private music instructors are encouraged to contact Music for Veterans Project (MVP) directly on behalf of their students and studio families for opportunities related to The Honouring Garden. As all pieces within MVP, each piece of music created is both inspired by, and composed in honour of, an individual veteran. The program is available to all Canadian school aged children studying with a private music instructor.

how are the plants selected?

Through consultation with the family of the woman veteran, a perennial is selected that will be both reflective of the individual and sensitive to the environment. Plant selection is subject to environmental conditions and long term ecological potential.

what will the plaques say?

Each woman memorialized in The Honouring Garden will have a small permanent plaque displayed near the corresponding perennial. Families will be consulted prior to the plaque engraving to confirm wording is in alignment with their wishes.
